Tap Repairs in Elimbah

200+ five-star Google reviews

Tap repairs across Elimbah usually trace back to a single worn part. Washer taps seal with a rubber washer pressed onto a valve seat, while mixers seal with a ceramic disc cartridge. Elimbah Same Day Plumbing replaces both, and every job is done by a licensed plumber.

We handle the whole taps and toilets range, and this page covers tap faults in detail. If a repair will not hold, our tap replacement work takes over where fixing stops.

Which Part Fails in Your Tap

The part that fails depends on which of the two tap types you have. A washer tap has separate hot and cold handles, each turning several full rotations. The spindle screws down, and a rubber washer presses onto the seat to stop the flow.

A mixer runs hot and cold through one lever, usually a quarter turn. Inside sits a ceramic disc cartridge with two polished discs that slide apart to let water through.

The jumper valve is the small part at the foot of a washer tap's spindle. It carries the washer down onto the seat. Knowing which system your tap uses tells you what we bring on the van.

Where the Leak Shows and What It Means

Where the water shows up tells you which part has failed. A drip from the spout, even with the tap fully off, means the sealing part is done for: the washer or its seat on an older tap, the cartridge on a mixer.

Leaks show in three other places:

  1. Around the handle

water creeping up the spindle points to a worn O-ring or spindle seal.

  2. At the base

water under the tap means worn O-rings, a connection that has worked loose, or a body cracked through.

  3. Nowhere at all

a slow hidden leak shows up on the bill instead, and our Elimbah emergency page is worth a read if it turns serious.

Turn the water off before anyone opens a tap. The stop tap at the meter closes clockwise, but check first that nothing, such as a hot water system, depends on that supply.

What Decides Repair or Replace

The price turns on the tap, the parts and the condition underneath it. A sound body with one worn washer is a small job. A valve seat eaten by years of grit, or a body cracked by knocks, means the repair stops there and a new tap goes in.

A few things drive the cost either way:

  • the tap type and the part it needs
  • the state of the seat and the tap body
  • whether the water shuts off at the fixture or only at the meter
  • how many taps we do in one visit

A leak that survives new washers and a new cartridge means the fault sits deeper. Once our plumber has seen the job, you get a fixed quote before any work starts.

Tap Repairs for Owners and Tenants

Who may do the work depends on the job and the tenancy. The QBCC lists one tap task as unregulated work: a jumper valve or washer, which anyone with the right knowledge and skill may replace, provided it still meets the standards. Every other tap repair, and fitting a whole new tap, is licensed work for a QBCC licensee.

Renters have a separate path. A dripping tap is not on the Act's emergency repairs list, so it counts as routine. Tell the owner or agent as soon as you notice it, and they arrange the fix within a reasonable time.

A Form 11 notice gives the owner or manager at least seven days to act. If a tap keeps running, the cistern may be the real culprit, and our toilet repairs page covers those faults.

Older Tapware on Bigmor Drive Estates

Elimbah grew from a bullock-team camp called The Six Mile into a town of family estates and acreage, with area-level figures putting growth at 8.0 percent across the five years to 2025. Thirty-five new dwellings were approved in 2021-22 alone.

Most of the housing stock is older than that growth spurt. Tapware fitted when the estates along Bigmor Drive went in carries decades of daily family use, and washers harden, O-rings flatten and seats pit.

That mix means we carry washers, jumper valves and a range of cartridges on the van, so one visit usually closes the job.

Tap Repair Questions We Get

Call (07) 3523 7172

How do I stop my tap from dripping in Elimbah?

A drip from the spout means the washer or its seat has failed on a washer tap, or the cartridge on a mixer. Only the jumper valve or washer counts as unregulated work, so the rest belongs to a licensed plumber.

Why does my mixer tap feel stiff to turn?

Grit or wear inside the cartridge or spindle is the usual cause. We replace the whole cartridge, matched to your tap's make and model, and the lever moves freely again.

Can I change a tap washer myself in Elimbah?

Yes, for the jumper valve or washer only. The QBCC lists that one job as unregulated work for anyone with the right knowledge and skill, and it still has to meet the standards. Fitting a new tap is licensed work.

What does fixing a leaking tap cost?

The price depends on the tap type, the part it needs, seat or body damage, how easily the water shuts off, and how many taps we do in one visit. You get a fixed quote once our plumber has seen the job.

Does a dripping tap waste much water?

Yes, a slow drip wastes thousands of litres over time. The owner carries that loss on the Unitywater bill, because the concealed leak adjustment does not cover water lost through leaking taps.
